About Regex Tester & Match Extractor

Define your own regular expression (regex) to search the input data with, optionally choosing from a list of pre-defined patterns. Supports extended regex syntax including the 'dot matches all' flag, named capture groups, full unicode coverage (including \p{} categories and scripts as well as astral codes) and recursive matching.

Input: text. Output: HTML with a sandboxed preview.

Highlight matches for inspection, or select a list output to copy matching strings and capture groups. Multiline anchors and dot-matches-all are separate switches.

Pattern engine differences

This tool supports extended JavaScript-style regular expressions through its engine. A pattern may behave differently in PCRE, Python or another runtime. Test it in the target application before deploying it.

Before interpreting the result

Choose whether an operation works on characters, lines or bytes. Check delimiter and regular expression options before processing logs or structured text.

How to use this page

  1. Paste your input or open a local file.
  2. Adjust tool options if needed, then choose Run tool.
  3. Copy the result or download the original output bytes.

Inputs and results are not added to the public catalogue or saved in the URL. Processing happens in your browser; HTTP Request and DNS over HTTPS send the requests you explicitly run. Files up to 128 MiB can be opened; decompression and image tools may have smaller processing limits. Large results have a shortened preview. Text and HTML downloads use UTF-8; binary downloads preserve output bytes. Pasted text follows browser newline handling; open a file when exact input bytes matter.
